Never Fail Pastry (Mam-ma says it never fails!)
3 C all purpose flour
1 t salt
1 1/4 C solid vegetable shortening
1 egg, beaten well
6 T cold water
1 T vinegar
Combine flour
and salt in large bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture
resembles coarse meal. In a separate bowl, blend egg, water and vinegar with a
spoon. Pour into flour mixture. Blend with a spoon. Form into a ball. Put in a
container and refrigerate. To prepare a crust, take about 1/3 of pastry dough,
and roll to 1/8" thickness on lightly floured surface. Place in 9" pie plate.
Trim off excess pastry. Fold under edges and flute. Prick bottom and sides with
fork. Bake or fill as directed. Makes three 9" crusts.
